Covid 19 Advice

Somerset Community Foundation's response to COVID-19

The coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak is a major event and we recognise that many smaller, local charities and community groups will be worried about its impact on their work, their beneficiaries and the communities they live and work in.

What we're doing and how groups can help...

We want to reassure you that we will do everything we can to continue supporting the local voluntary sector at this time. While we are doing all we can to make sure Somerset Community Foundation can carry on business as usual, inevitably there will be some disruption and it may take longer to respond to enquiries than usual.

We are looking at the ways we, or our partners, can support VCSE organisations and our communities during the outbreak, both now and in the future, as our communities recover. We will be posting revised contact details on our website as necessary.

We are very grateful to all of the organisations that have filled in our survey so far. While we don’t want to create additional burdens for you, if you are a charity, voluntary organisation or social enterprise, it would be very useful to hear your thoughts on how the COVID-19 outbreak could affect your organisation and the support you may need. If you have not yet, could you please take a moment to complete this short survey or otherwise email: directly.

If you've recently received a grant...

We know many of you are supporting some of the most vulnerable people in Somerset and will yourselves be under extra pressure and uncertainty. We will be as flexible as we can be, for example:

if you need to adapt the work we have funded to meet short-term needs
if  you think you’re going to need to extra time to deliver funded projects, or
you need more time to report to us.

Please let us know if you wish to vary the terms of your grant by emailing either your main contact at SCF or

If you've recently applied for a grant...

For organisations that have submitted an application and are waiting for a decision, please be patient with us as we work with our funders to decide the best way forward. We would like to thank the organisations that have already been in touch to tell us they wish to withdraw their application for the time being.

If you're planning to apply for a grant...

If you are currently putting an application together for one of our programmes, our advice is to carry on for the time being, but bear in mind that the current coronavirus outbreak may affect your planned work.

A source of advice...

If you have not yet seen it, there is excellent advice from NCVO for voluntary sector organisations which we encourage you to look at.

We aim to keep you updated with any changes as they arise, as it is possible that we may have to close for new applications to regular programmes for a short while. I hope this note has been useful but do feedback any comments or questions by emailing:

Many thanks,
