Make your Christmas green - recycle your tree

With the festive season in full swing, Somerset Council is reminding everyone to put recycling the Christmas tree onto their list.  The best option is to compost it at home or turn it into a wildlife corner, though we appreciate that will not be possible for many people.  Garden Waste Service subscribers can leave their decoration-free tree out with their first collection of the year, so long as its smaller than 2 metres (or 6ft). Somerset Council working with the NHS to digitise adult social care in Somerset

Somerset Council and NHS Somerset are teaming up to provide funding to care providers who want to go digital by introducing electronic care records which replace paper-based admin systems.  This project is in its second year running and has already helped over thirty care providers in Somerset to adopt a digital care record system. Recycling collections – crews will be catching up on Saturday

Waste collection crews will be working this Saturday (9 December) in parts of South Somerset to catch-up on flood delayed collections.  The teams have been working hard to reach households following the flooding which hit parts of Somerset this week.  Crews have today (Friday), returned to villages in and around Somerton for recycling missed on Thursday. Police Funding Survey

PCC Mark Shelford has launched a survey asking if local people support his proposal to increase the precept – the policing part of the council tax – by at least £10 a year for the average band D household.   The PCC is responsible for setting the amount of money residents contribute to local policing through the precept. Changes are coming to waste collections next year

Recycling and rubbish collection days will be changing for more than 120,000 homes in Somerset in February next year.  The changes come as new collection routes are introduced by Somerset Council’s contractor, SUEZ recycling and recovery UK. The new routes will make rounds more efficient, more manageable for crews whilst reducing mileage and carbon emissions.
