Gardening season is here, time to sign up to a garden recycling collection

Somerset residents are being reminded that they can sign up for a fortnightly home garden waste recycling collection.  The service run by Somerset Council has more than 56,000 subscribers and with spring well and truly here and gardens bursting into life, now is the perfect time to sign up.  Subscriptions can be started any time during the year and the quickest and easiest way to subscribe is online through the somerset.gov.uk/waste page – just use the ‘Do it online/My Waste Service’ feature. …

Patience please. Some collections delayed

Somerset Council is asking for patience in parts of Mendip and South Somerset following delays to some waste and recycling collections.  A combination of factors has left crews unable to complete some of their scheduled collections this week. These include heavy bank holiday loads, large volumes of the cardboard, increased garden waste, vehicle breakdowns and traffic congestion linked to the Bath and West Show.  As a result, some residents will need to wait two weeks for recycling collections…

Recycling sites to stop taking cartons as Recycle More makes its mark    Cartons and Tetra Pak will no longer be taken at Somerset recycling sites from mid-June thanks to the success of kerbside collections.  All 12 of the 16 sites which currently take these items – commonly used for liquids such as juice - will stop accepting them from Monday 12 June.  The move is down to the huge success of Recycle More expanded collections which mean cartons are collected from the kerb every week with the…

A recycling result to celebrate on Somerset Day   New figures released on Somerset Day show that nine out of ten households in the county are now recycling.  Looking at a representative sample of more than 3,000 homes in March this year, 91% were found to be actively recycling and sorting items into their boxes and Bright Blue Bag.  That is up from the 85% when this analysis was last carried out five years ago.  And when it comes to food waste recycling the improvements are even better, with…
